Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Junior Audition Information

For a digital copy of songs to practice with and/or perform with, go here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B984Wp7G0yTWTHZqbE05R05pYTQ&usp=sharing

PLEASE NOTE: You are not required to audition to be in the show. Auditions are for children who want a main part or a solo. A main part is characterized by a part that speaks or sings alone.  A list of main parts will follow below. Main parts will be given to the child the audition board deems best for each individual part. Preference for main parts will be given to older students. If you choose to not audition, you will not be given a speaking or singing solo.

Audition Dates/Times
  • 3-5 Grades—December 18, 2014: 3:30 until done. Students may leave as soon as their audition time is over.
  • K-2 Grades—December 19, 2014: 2:15 until done. Students may leave as soon as their audition time is over.
  • Callbacks if needed—December 19, 2014: we anticipate starting around 3:15 PM

Audition Procedure
Absolutely no parents will be allowed in the room during auditions. No exceptions.

3-5 Grades: Please come prepared. Use the materials we have linked on this form to help you. We ask that you prepare a song for the character you would like to audition for AND prepare “Pure Imagination” (sung by Willy Wonka). We might not ask you to sing “Pure Imagination,” but we want you prepared in case we do. A list of songs we would like you to sing for each character is below. For example, if you wanted to auditon to be Augustus Gloop, you would prepare the song listed ("I Eat More") as well as "Pure Imagination." You would also prepare the script lines listed by Augustus Gloop on the MTI Audition Central Website.

You will audition individually. You will not be allowed to audition with a partner nor group. You will sing a song solo (alone) from the show (unless you want a part listed below that says “No solo song required”). We will have a track recording for you to sing to. We will also have a piano and piano player available for you to sing with if preferred. You will then read some lines from the show for the character you would like to audition for. Please note that if you try out for one part, but we think you are better for another part, we will put you with the other part.

K-2 Grades: You will audition as a group of students (we will put you into groups on audition day). You will sing a song you have learned for the Christmas program this year at school. We will provide accompaniment music for you.

Rehearsal and Performance Schedule
Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 and Fridays from 2:15-3:30. Not all students will be at every rehearsal, though most main parts will be at each rehearsal each week. We will give you a full schedule once parts are assigned. Rehearsals will be extended and possibly some days added in late February and/or early March.

Show dates are March 13 and 14.

List of Main Characters/parts
You can find more information about each character, the lines to read at auditions for each character, and sheet music for auditions for each character here: http://www.broadwayjr.com/audition/auditionlist.asp?ID=000255 . If you would like to practice with the recorded music tracks, go here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B984Wp7G0yTWTHZqbE05R05pYTQ&usp=sharing

PLEASE NOTE FOR MAIN PARTS
There are some things to be aware of if you want to be a main part:
  • We ask that rehearsals for the show are your first priority. If you have other commitments that conflict with the rehearsal times, we will expect that rehearsals will come first. Ensemble parts will not require as much rehearsal time, so if you cannot commit that much time but still want to be a part of the show, an ensemble part is right for you.
  • Main parts will require substantial practicing outside of rehearsal time. You will need to practice lines and songs at home.
  • Main parts will be required to provide their own costume. The costume committee will help direct you in what it should be like and may be able to help with sewing costumes if needed.
